My name is Alexa and we are going to go through the book of First Peter together today.

At First Peter chapter 1, Peter reminds exiled

Christians about their hope in Christ. Peter praises God for how he gives those who

come to faith in Christ a living hope. This living hope involves an inheritance that can never

fade or be taken away. And this inheritance is eternal life with Christ.

Although these Christians are experiencing suffering, they can rejoice because of the sanctification

promised to them through their suffering and the living hope given to them through Christ.

As these Christians set their hope on their eternal future, Peter calls them to be a people of

holiness in the present. Peter encourages these believers to be holy like God is holy,

and he reminds them how they have been made holy through the salvation they have received

their Christ.

In chapter 2, Peter continues to call the people to holiness.

Peter reminds these Christians how they are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, and a holy nation for God's possession.

As God's chosen people, these Christians are to proclaim the goodness of Jesus who rescue them out of the darkness of sin.

Peter also exhorts these believers to abstain from sinful desires.

Instead of being like the Gentiles around them who indulge in sin, these believers are to conduct themselves with holiness, which will be a gospel witness to those around them.

In chapter 3, Peter teaches how to respond to suffering.

Instead of retaliating, Peter encourages these believers to be people of peace and compassion.

He reminds these Christians how it is far better to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
