Summary

In the fourth episode of British Murders Season 4, I tell the story of Stuart Hulse and Shirley Brown.⁣

In June 1996, Hulse attended a "sordid sex party" with ten other individuals.⁣

At the party, Hulse watched an extreme pornographic video and became frustrated when he was left on his own after everyone else coupled up and disappeared to different bedrooms.⁣

Hulse took a taxi home, snuck into Shirley Brown's house and sexually assaulted her. He was re-enacting the acts portrayed in the video.⁣

He then strangled Shirley to death with her tights and went home.⁣

He was handed a life sentence in January 1998 and told in 2008 that he must serve a minimum of 17 years behind bars before being eligible for parole.⁣

0:21.1	I'm your host, as ever Stuart Blues Blues and this is now the fourth episode of season four.
0:26.9	This past weekend I visited Bowler's Exhibition Centre in Manchester
0:31.1	for a fan convention named for the Love of Horror.
0:35.5	As you can imagine, the event celebrates the horror genre as a whole,
0:39.1	and it's organised by UK Events Company Monopoly Events.
0:43.6	I was accompanied by my mate Brett Curtis,
0:45.7	who featured on my movie review episode of Jordan Peel's Us from 2019,
0:51.1	were typically not convention goers,
0:53.3	but we thought it'd be a laugh and it certainly was.
0:57.3	There was a scare maze at the event, which, to be fair, did scare me a little bit due to all the
1:02.3	people jumping out and grabbing you, but it's fair to say that Brett was petrified.
1:07.4	The guy said to us, is he the one of you feeling particularly brave?
1:11.3	We both agreed that I was, because I'm hard, but it shoved us through the same door,
1:16.0	whereas some other people that were sort of splitting him up, I went first,
1:19.7	Brett was behind me.
1:22.9	There was one time where you had to do a bit of crawling, and I was walking down a corridor,
1:27.6	a guy came straight out of the dark in my face, scared the shit out of me, crawled through.
1:32.1	It was jump scary.
1:33.6	Brett was holding on to me by the end.
1:35.1	Someone grabbed my leg, thought it was Brett.
1:36.9	It wasn't.
