Hey church family, it's time for DeVos. If you got your Bible, we're going to go Matthew

Chapter 13. We're going to try to cover a lot of verses. Not only is this one of my favorite parables,

but it impacts me a ton as a preacher. I hope it'll impact you as a receiver, but also it's one of

the only places where Jesus explains what the parable means. So we don't even have to leave it up

for interpretation. He tells us exactly what it means. It starts this way. Matthew 13, that same day,

Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the

sea and great crowds gathered about him so that he got into a boat and he sat down and the

whole crowd stood on the beach. And so he's basically creating an amphitheater here. Sometimes when

we go to Israel, we'll do this. You can sit everybody up on, it's almost

like the end zone at the JAG Stadium or something, and then he pushes out on a boat so that his

voice will amplify. Then he begins to teach. And he told them many things in parables saying, a

sower went out to sow, and as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.

Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil.

But when the sun rose, they were scorched.

And since they had no root, they withered away.

Other seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Other seed fell on good soil

and produced grain, some, some 100-fold, some 60, some 30. He who has ears, let him hear. And then mic drop, he's out.

Now, I think a part of why he does this is because he's the master teacher.

And with his disciples that followed him around everywhere,

he would dig in on some deep theological questions and things like this.

But when these huge crowds are showing up,

he's giving them these word pictures of everyday life
