This is Karen Hunter and welcome to the hub. When we think about art and in particular television it's usually a way of escape right it's

it's the place that we go to get away from everything and especially in this time you know a lot of us are going

down deep rabbit holes to just get out of our own head space of the reality of

life so when Lovecraft Country launched and debuted on HBO, I was like, okay, I'm here for it, you know, Jordan

Pills attached, J.J. Abrams, I've watched just about everything he's done on television and then it was

Meisha Green the woman that did that gave us underground okay I'm in first episode

I'm like all right white people are monsters.

Okay, I can roll with this.

It's weird, it's sci-fi.

But as each episode started to unfold,

I saw something and I said, man, this has to be the way we do television. We do art. We do movies and music. There has to be a way to crack open in people, this notion of questioning

what it is we're doing here.

And so as Lovecraft Country took us out of the sundown towns

into a space where, oh, you're moving

into a neighborhood with white people,

and this is how they act.

Well, here, we got something for you.

And then they're ancestors who are coming together

to fight racism in the basement.

What?

Wait a minute.
