This is Karen Hunter and welcome to the hub. I teach at Hunter College and this semester I have some really brilliant students who are super talented and a lot of them are anxious to get in the game and start making money and become famous and they want the instant gratification of putting work in and getting it out.

And for one of the first times in my life I could sit back patiently and

recognize that wisdom comes with time and the kind of success that most people want will only happen with time.

And I know that's hard to swallow and I've done several podcasts on topics like this,

but I want to talk about a few things in this one, and most of it is about

patients, something that I've never really had, I've never mastered, and I often tell people

I don't pray for it because God will test you so I never pray for patients but as I sit in the

seat that I'm in right now I realize that none of this could be done if I did not have some

sort of internal understanding that it takes time to build.

Now, I have this wonderful radio show on Serious XM

that I am now in my fifth year,

just celebrated my fifth anniversary on the air.

And as I look back five years ago I sit here on the shoulders of five years

of planning. The first year on the air I didn't really have any advertising I don't know if we had

any listeners because serious XM doesn't have ratings and I know I don't didn't

have a lot of listeners because we didn't keep our advertisers.

You know, I look back now, Bombay Sox was one of the first to advertise with us, but they didn't

stick around because they didn't get any traction because we probably didn't have a lot of

listeners buying their socks.

And at the time, you know, I wanted to feel some ways about it, but the truth of the matter is you build an audience.
