And let me welcome to the show for the first time she's the

author of the truth about white lies is a YA book so this get them young I know she

probably going to be on that banned book list soon. Let me welcome Olivia A Cole.

Hey, thank you so much for having me really.

I'm really honored.

I appreciate it.

Oh, it, listen, when I saw this, I was like, yes, we have to talk, we have to talk.

I think, you know, before you came on, I was like, the goal should be to find yourself

in everybody, right?

Find yourself in people, which then draws you to them, right? Find yourself in people, which then draws you to them, right?

Find the commonality, find the thing that makes us more similar, find a thing that you like.

But we don't seem to be there. There's to me a disconnect with a whole faction of society where it's us and them.

And them, they're alien, foreign, they're not like us us which allows you to demonize and treat people poorly and not see them

what was the impetus for writing the truth about white lies and walk us through that journey.

Yeah, sure. I mean, really a lot of what you just said that us and the mentality that, you know, I think

white people are conditioned not to notice and to just kind of accept as the norm and it's as natural as breathing when you are, when you're the one holding the societal power, right you you don't notice the things the ways that you are

oppressing you only notice the ways you're oppressed and so I think that white folks we are

ingrained with the sense of blindness from birth really and so it took me a long time to notice that obviously because as a white person, you know, being conditioned in this way, it doesn't, it's not made apparent until you kind of get smacked upside the head once or twice and sometimes it takes maybe a dozen, a dozen, and

it's not just once or twice, but I was very lucky to get smacked upside the head pretty early.

And a couple of times, you know, a couple of times.
