In this interview I speak with a woman named Deborah Howard.

She wrote a book called Reparing the Quilt of Humanity.

But I pulled forward a piece that I thought was particularly profound, where she talks to white people about white people's

need to heal from the impact of racism. I thought it was really incredible and I hope you

enjoy. We have this healing that needs to take place, right? So people who have been

oppressed need to heal from that and what did you say? You said it's a disease of

the heart, right? And so white people have to heal

psychologically from having their humanity stripped away I mean if you think

about slavery you know you you see these human beings you treat them like chattel

You you have to be missing a part of your humanity to do that and so the rape the brutality your

slaves, you know, it's incredible. And so, you know, your own children are your slaves, you know, it's incredible.

And so, you know, you look at, at you know all of these

stereotypes about black men being dangerous

it's projection.

Right. I mean if we look at who's really done the horrible brutal you have lynchings

You know having a picnic at a lynching you know bringing your kids to watch. So to me, this country is in denial.

It is in complete denial about the fact that, you know know we look at Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving what are we thankful for that we came here the Native Americans

welcomed us and then we killed them it It's like, you know, and the Constitution itself, the Constitution is looked at in this country is this holy document.

But in this document, they had this whole thing about, know six-eighths three-fifths you know
