Ryan Sands will need no introduction to the vast majority of you. The iconic South

African trail runner is here. He has been a fixture on the scene for more than a decade now.

He's a longtime friend of mine. And I'm glad to finally have him on the show. For those who follow

Ryan on Instagram, you've probably seen that he recently

completed a massive personal project with his adventure partner and fellow South African

trail runner, Mr. Rayno Grisel. They called the project Navigate Lesotho. It was 1,100 kilometers

circumnavigation of the tiny but super mountainous African country called Lesotho.

It lies entirely within the country of South Africa.

Kind of confusing, but look at a map and it will make perfect sense.

You can basically see the entirety of the path that they trod around that beautiful

region of the world. And we talked all about that adventure in this episode. But since Ryan and I have

been in the sports and known each other for such a long time, we also spent a good amount of time

chatting about the good old days. Recounting when we met at the 2011 Leadville 100. We also spent a good amount of time chatting about the good old days. We're counting

at the 2012 Western States coming up on the 10-year anniversary. We talked about his victory

at Western States, which came five years later. His series of disappointments at UTMB,

meditated on longevity and a lot more. I really respect this guy. He is such a great champion,

a great representative for our sport. And I hope you guys enjoy hearing a couple grizzled veterans,

a couple aging pros chat about

the sport for a little while.
