We're looking in Ruth, chapter one, beginning in verse 8.

Then Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, go back, each of you to your mother's home.

The girl said to her in verse 10, we are going to stay with you and go back with you to your people. Verse 11, Naomi said, no, stay here. There's no way that if you go back with me to Bethlehem, I'm abbreviating here, there's no way that you will ever have a future or a hope. And then verse 14 tells us that Orba kissed her mother-in-law goodbye, but Ruth clung to her. Verse 15, Look, said Naomi, your sister-in-law is going back to her people and her gods. Go back with her. But Ruth replied, with these immortal words, don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go, I will go. And where you stay,

I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God, my God. Where you die, I will die.

And there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me be it ever so severely if anything but death
