This is CBS Eye on the World. Here's John Batchelor. Welcomeing my colleague Michael Bernstein, the Hoover Institution, who has been my guide on sanctions against Russia because of the depredations in Ukraine

since the beginning of the war, since before the beginning of the war, and Michael is now wearing a laurel,

and circling the Olympic Stadium because he's in first place for saying exactly what would happen in the spring of 2025.

Michael, congratulations as you hear the cheers of the crowd.

You said starting last fall, and certainly in the beginning of the winter, when OPEC said,

in April, we're going to increase production from yay to nay.

You said that would be the end for Russia, that they cannot withstand OPEC increasing its output.

Because Russia can't, and because the shadow fleet doesn't matter anymore

once the barrel of oil starts to plunge into the 60s and maybe the 50s.

That's exactly what's happened. Within moments of the increase in OPEC production,

suddenly the Kremlin is interested in a line of control in peace talks, and suddenly

they're worried about retaining soldiers because when there's peace, they'll all quit their

uniforms and go back to their homes. Suddenly, they're no longer making maximalist demands of

Keefe. All of this, when that simple matter of the price of a barrel of oil.
