Hello there, Jenny Falconer back with Emma Kirk O'Donubi to chat all things strength training.

0:15.7

Hello there, Emma.

0:16.6

Hello, hello. Thank you so much for coming and chatting. I mean, obviously you know a thing or two about this. You are a brilliant running coach. You are an expert in all things running. You're the founder of Bulletproof Athletic. And you do help train people, whether it's for, you know, marathons, half marathons. And also you help get them fit to run. And one of the areas I guess that you need to focus on at some point

0:40.0

is the strength area because I think it's lovely to quite for a run. I love it. It's my favourite part.

0:45.9

But sometimes you do realise it is important to get a bit stronger and to focus on that strength

0:51.5

and conditioning to complement the running, is that fair?

0:54.7

That is definitely fair. And I think it's, I'll be honest, it's one of the biggest messages that

0:59.3

definitely as part as kind of co-founder of Bulletproof Athletic, it's the biggest message we try to

1:05.8

send home, you know? As you said, we all love the run itself. That's the thing that we all get

1:10.5

out there and enjoy and thrive off. So ultimately, we want love the run itself. That's the thing that we all get out there and

1:10.9

enjoy and thrive off. So ultimately, we want to be able to go out and do that run for as long

1:15.7

as possible. You know, when we're in our mid, late 80s and our 90s, we want to be able to go

1:19.8

out there and do that run. So strength and conditioning is basically your buy-in to be able to do that by having a strong body stronger joints stronger muscles

1:29.6

ligaments tendons all those things that basically hold you up as you run will then enable you to be

1:35.5

able to keep running for longer and as I said yeah with bulletproof that's our key thing that we

1:40.0

drive home we know runners love to run so let's try and make you run for as long as you can

1:43.9

and I know that um as long as you can.

1:47.7

And I know that as we get older, it's so annoying. Things get stiffer and we ache a little bit easier. And I think that's why it's even more important

1:53.2

to be doing some strength work as you get older. So you can continue running for longer.

1:58.4

Oh, absolutely. And I think, you know, one thing we've learned the

2:02.1

last couple of the years through the pandemic and lockdowns and all that jazz is that, you know,
