I'm Bob Crawford, and my good friend and current co-host of RTN theology, Chris Breslin.

Chris is the pastor of Oak Church in Durham, North Carolina.

And recently, Chris invited me to be a part of a talk with Kate Bowler, who is an amazing author.

She just wrote a book called Everything Happens for a Reason and Other Lies I've Loved.

Chris, welcome to RTN Theology, first of all.

It's great to be here, and it was a no-brainer to pull you in to a conversation with Kate.

Kate was one of my professors at Duke Divinity School a few years back. And Kate is a graduate of

both Yale Divinity School and Duke University. And they were smart enough to hire her right away as a professor.

She, her main field of study as a church historian is the American prosperity gospel.

She wrote a book called Blessed.

It's the first academic history of the American prosperity gospel.

And more recently, in the focus of our conversation in this podcast, she wrote,

Everything Happens for a Reason, which is her memoir about her treatment and the amazing

ways that she has personally been affected by cancer and the ways that that integrates with her faith and her family and the community around her.

At the time of our conversation, I don't think it was a New York Times bestseller.

Maybe it just had its first week.
