I'm Mick Garrus, and this is Postmortem.

The role of the producer in film and television

is probably the most nebulous of all jobs in the business.

Most people understand that the screenwriter writes the script,

the director works with all the creative and practical aspects

of the movie to put a cohesive visual story on the screen,

a cinematographer lights and photographs the film, etc. etc. etc.

But what about the producer, especially in these days,

where you can see a dozen or two of them listed on one movie or TV series?

There is no simple answer.

A producer can earn that title in a number of different ways.

In my case, when I produced Masters of Horror,

I conceived the concept of the show and was instrumental in putting together

writers, directors, and cast for the movies.
