The LGBTQ movement was very different. It was really emerging from shadows.

It was emerging and it was very much a separatist community at that time.

We weren't yet, you know, through the AIDS crisis where lesbians and men really did come together at a necessity.

And we were taking care of the guys who were dying and we were getting their medicine and going to act up

and laying down and get arrested on the streets. You know, that horrible time for all gay people.

When, you know, your whole world, all of your friends are dying, unified the gay community in a way that I think spawned this new generation of.

But it's my children, even my ten-year-old, who corrects me on these things.

That's right. And it's so embarrassing. And it's so shaming that I'm this lesbian, big star icon gay, something.

She told me that her stuffed animals were non-binary. I'm like, here we go. Here we go. And I said, okay, well, what does that mean?

She goes, they don't feel like a boy and they don't feel like a girl. I said, well, that's fantastic. You know, it's funny.

It's that I'm a girl who people used to call a Tom Boy because I liked all the boys stuff when I was little. And you know what's weird?

I still do really like the boys stuff. I like football. I like riding a motorcycle. I like to do a lot of stuff that boys traditionally like to do.

But you know what else? Never was confused about thinking if I was a boy or a girl. Always knew I was a girl and loved being a girl.

So you can be a girl and feel any way you want or you can figure out what it is. And I'm like rambling and rambling. And she said, are you John?
