Summary

Hey y’all, welcome back to the Roots and Refuge Podcast!
Let’s talk about preparedness, not the kind you see on sensational TV shows or fear-driven social media, but the kind that grows from peace, purpose, and love. In this episode I’m sharing my thoughts on what it really means to be rooted and ready in a world that feels increasingly uncertain. We’re talking food security, skill-building, and heart-centered home readiness—not panic, not hoarding, but stewardship and hope.

I’ve distanced myself from the word “prepper” for a long time because of what it’s come to mean—but truthfully, I do believe in being prepared. Not with shelves full of stuff, but with dirt under your nails, knowledge in your heart, and the peace that comes from knowing you’ve stewarded well. Skills can’t be bought—but they can be cultivated. Let’s talk about how.

Take a deep breath, friend. Let’s grow steady together.

If you’ve found encouragement here, consider supporting the podcast on Patreon, where you can listen early and join our monthly Q&A.

As always—I bless you, until next time.

0:35.3

that is, I guess, layered with a lot of nuance and essentially is really hard to talk about sometimes because of the ideas that people have about prepping.

0:49.1

I think there was a show.

0:50.0

I don't know what, you know, network put it on a while ago.

0:53.7

There was like a doomsday prepper show.

0:55.5

And I feel like that has woven this idea of what prepping is into the minds of a lot of people.

1:03.2

And then everybody that I know, like, knows somebody that's just like what they would call, like a crazy prepper that is like what is on that show the

1:12.0

doomsday prepper show and for a long time I was really adamant at saying I'm not a

1:17.7

prepper I'm not a prepper I'm not a prepper and what I was trying to say was I'm not like

1:22.6

the people on that show I'm not living in fear I'm not living in fear. I'm not living in panic. I'm not, you know, stockpiling,

1:31.3

lots of stuff that I may never actually use. I'm not that. But I really had to come to a place,

1:39.6

honestly, it was during COVID, when COVID happened and a lot of people were dealing with a lot of fear

1:47.5

and they were dealing with the that there were some shortages they were dealing with the potential

1:52.4

of their being shortages they were dealing with a lot of things like whenever meat was limited to

1:57.2

two packages of family at the grocery store and different things like that, I realized how very prepared we were. And I thought, I think maybe we need to have a different

2:06.2

conversation about what it means to be a prepper. So today, I want to talk to you about being rooted

2:15.1

and ready and basically allowing wisdom and simplicity to ground you in what is

2:23.3

ultimately a very shifting world. I was I was actually listening yesterday to like a report about
