Welcome to the treatment. I'm Elvis Mitchell, as I've said in the past on the show, so it's good to have friends come back, and there's no better friend to me or to this show than the author of the screenplay for best of times. The director,

of course, of both Durham and Blaze and many of your favorite films that seem to be about

sports, but about more than sports. His new film, which is not about sports at all, but it sort of is,

is just getting started. Of course, the writer-director, Ron Shelton, Ron, thanks for being back. And as you know, I'm happy to be here and hope I can help the ballroom.

You can quickly tell the audience what they're going to see when they see Just Getting Started.

Well, it's a movie about an upscale retirement community in Palm Springs at Christmas time.

So the target audience is everybody that might

actually want to go to one of these places. This is not your 18 to 24 market, I suspect. It's

their grandparents. And it's a place that's run by Morgan Freeman as a sort of a wheeler dealer

who can't help himself. Sergeant Bilko meets the Duke and the Dofine.

And Tommy Lee Jones moves in, and that's one too many old alpha dogs for the property.

And they're both competing for the attention of...

René Russo, who has no interest in one of them or either of them at first,

and finally perhaps in one of them.

And it's something though, that I mentioned this to you when I just talked to you recently

that so many of your pieces played to the bone, this blaze even, are about two kinds, different kinds of ego, megalomainics, if you will,

a narcissist and an egotist, one person who's aware of whom what he is, and the other who is not?

Well, yeah, unfortunately, our world right now, they're in the newspaper above the fold,

and every day these characters, I used to have fun with them, now they're in charge.

But the idea of these guys, these very competing kinds of egos, but egos nonetheless, has so much been like the foundation of your work, haven't there?

Well, we talked about a whole long time ago, Elvis, at a bar with a cigar when you can still smoke him indoors, about the difference.
