So every episode, before I start the interview interview I explain to the comedian what's about to happen

not sure why I do this you know it's ultimately they just have to answer questions I ask them

but I hope I am communicating to them that I have a plan and they are in safe hands.

What I usually say is, so we'll start with the joke and then go like this.

So you just didn't see, but I did a hand motion of two hands expanding out in a sort of toppled over V shape.

I essentially create the less than sign or the mouth of a hungry alligator.

I think you can picture at this point, or at least I hope you've seen an alligator and they're v-like mouths.

But recently I started thinking of it as a sort of sideways iceberg, so often jokes, even big expansive stories are like well icebergs. They offer just a

glimpse of what's underneath. Jokes are a distillation of a world of thinking and experiences. And in turn this podcast is about revealing

what's below the surface. I loved my interview with this episode's guest Ron Funches

because it so purely exhibits this phenomenon.

The Nashville joke we talked about which appeared on his 2015 debut album,

The Funches of Us, and his Kami Central half hour, is short.

It's not very long, and there aren't that many words in it as he spends as much

time not talking as talking during it. But there is a world behind it. Now I can show you the world,

Aladdin. So here is Ron Fungus.

I did actually see something really horrible recently.

I saw a gentleman on a bus with a tattoo on his neck that just read,

fuck Linda. That guy hates Linda.

Or he has to remind himself

to be intimate with Linda Either way Linda could do better
