Welcome to Searchlight, a survey through Scripture with Pastor John Corson.

It is our desire to bring you a systematic study of the entire Bible, chapter by chapter, book by book.

Over the past couple of Searchlight programs, we have been looking at the problem of legalism in Romans chapter 7.

The problem arises because we want to avoid sinning, so we surround ourselves with rules and regulations,

and we also impose those on others.

But what happens is we either become prideful when we keep the rules, or we become depressed when we fail to

keep them. As we pick up our teaching today, we are confronted with an unpopular truth about our

own nature. With our study, here now is Pastor John. For I know that in me underline this verse, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing.

Whenever I'm disappointed in myself, it's because I'm denying what God says.

What does God say?

Johnny, in you, that is your flesh, dwells no good thing.

I still struggle with this. Oh, I know it theologically. I can quote the verse from memory.

But sometimes I think there's some good in me, isn't there?

Am I really this bad, father?
