Welcome to Searchlight, a survey through Scripture with Pastor John Corson.

It is our desire to bring you a systematic study of the entire Bible,

chapter by chapter, book by book.

In the book of Romans, the Apostle Paul is going to talk in depth about the glory of the gospel. It is a beautiful

gem. But before Paul talks about the gem of the gospel, he paints a black backdrop

so that we can more easily see the beauty of the gem. In Chapter 1, Paul talked about blackness

of the unrighteous. Today we begin a verse by verse study of chapter two, and in this chapter we will see the blackness

of the self-righteous.

Let's now join Pastor John for our study and see how this applies to us.

Romans chapter 2, in Boston, Massachusetts Massachusetts a group of kids gathered around a stray dog.

A priest walking along the sidewalk saw these kids surrounding that stray dog and wondered what was going on. So we went up to those

kids and said, what's happening? Well, one of the boys said, we found this stray dog and we're

having a contest to see who gets to keep the stray dog and take him home. Really, what kind of contest?

Well, the one that tells the biggest lie gets to take the dog home. The priest looked shocked

and was appalled and said, hey kids, when I was your age, I would never have even thought about telling a big lie to get a dog.
