Welcome to the Bible Study. I'm Stephen Lawson, President of One Passion Ministries.

And each week I will teach verse by verse through the passage of scripture

so that you can better understand the word of God

and put it into practice in your life. Join me now as we look together into

this section of the Bible. I want to start with the word of prayer. Father, who look now to your word, we ask for

your grace, for your help, for your insight, for your discernment, for your understanding

to be given to us, help us to understand

your word most fully. We pray this in Christ's name, amen. Okay, Romans 1 and today we're going to be looking at verse 5, but I want to start reading

in verse 1, Paul, a bond servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for the Gospel of God,

which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures concerning his

son who was born of a descendant of David according to the flesh who was declared the

son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead

according to the spirit of holiness Jesus Christ our Lord.

Now here's our focus for today, verse 5, through whom we have received

grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles for his names sake.

So this is another installment on what I've entitled getting the gospel right.

And we're moving really one verse at a time through this section.

As you know, we're circling back to get to study these

first seven verses and we're wanting to study them very carefully because we've

noted that everything in these first seven verses will become expanded in the rest of the book.

So it's almost like here in these opening verses Paul lays out the seeds that will grow into the

forest of the rest of the book of Romans. So as we have been looking, we've noted just by way of quickly review.
