six years old today is six years ago I remember sitting on my living room floor and publishing episode

number one and I had no idea what the future would hold. I didn't know where I'd be. I can possibly imagine I'd be here six years from now.

All this time later, still podcasting. Thanks to you guys. Thank you to every one of you who shows an interest in the work and who enjoys the work and for all your encouragement and feedback. So well done. Anyway, actually what we normally do is a

debrief episode about the episode that we've just published.

And the episode that we just published was for Nick Cabilafcus,

a history of the World Podcast Illuminati member who earned the right to commission their own special

episode on the subject of their choice, and Nick chose Roman Greece. So I had to question whether I had anything in my

library really which was appropriate in terms of creating a timeline for this.

And I didn't really, I had to sort of invest in something.

A lot of books talk about the Byzantine Empire, that's really the focus, the center point, don't always

focus on what was actually going on in the Balkans, which is a fascinating subject because the focus or the center of culture was really moved

away from those cities and we spoke about how Athens became a small town, a far cry from the city it was and of course the city that it would become.

So I bought a book called The History of Greece

an enthralling overview of Greek history,

Greek mythology and history by Billy Wellman.

And I was served well by the historical Atlas of the World,

by Ludwig Kunman, or edited by Ludwig Kunaman and that really is a wonderful book

that I picked up many years ago that it basically gives it I mean it's easy to get it on the internet nowadays, these

rolling maps of how borders change, but before there was any of those, this historical
