I got a lot of emails this week from people about their moms,

and I tried to reply as to as many as possible,

even more than usual, because for someone to open up

with the intimate details of their love of their mother,

I feel like as much as I possibly can,

even if it's just a few words, I should respond.

And several people said that in past years,

they've heard me say that if you find yourself

deeply saddened by the loss of a loved one,

that reflects the depth of your love

and the depth of the happiness you had.

You don't miss that, which you didn't have.

And that's always been my approach.

The more you miss someone, the more you loved them,

and be grateful for that.

It's hard to understand, but be grateful for that.
