Robert Redford, one of Hollywood's most enduring icons, has died at 89.

The Santa Monica native's dynamic career spanned more than six decades.

Reporter Nardin Saad writes that Redford broke through with Butch Cassidy and the Sundance

Kid and The Way We Were, before turning to directing, winning an Oscar for his

film Ordinary People. Redford wasn't just a movie star, he changed the industry forever,

founding the Sundance Institute and Festival, which became the launchpad for independent film in

America. He was known for playing flawed, complicated heroes and using his fame to champion environmental

causes, Native American rights, and political reform.

In 2016, President Obama awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom,

cementing his legacy as an artist, activist, and cultural force.

Redford is survived by his wife, Sybil, daughters Shauna and Amy, and seven grandchildren.

Southern California is in for a weather roller coaster this week.

Clara Harder reports that Tuesday will bring some heat, with some areas of the Los Angeles

valleys hitting triple digits.

And meteorologists expect those highs to stick around through Wednesday, which could

bring thunderstorms into the mix.

Forecasters also warn that the biggest danger is lightning-sparked fires in dry areas.
