Optics nothing personal word of the day Thursday June 24th, 2021 is optics Optics.

Optics. What does that mean to you? I want to tell you what it means to me when I think of the word optics.

I spent my entire career trying to maximize the optics. Make people see things in a certain way,

sometimes the way I saw it, sometimes the way I didn't see it, but I wanted you to see it.

Optics. It is manipulating a situation to the benefit of yourself

in order for other people to believe something is true with reckless indifference toward whether it's

actually true. Optically speaking, I believe that day follows night. That's not optics, that's actual.

That's just the time continuum. Optically speaking, we are going to take one bus to the ballpark,

but we're not going to talk on the bus because we all hate each other. But optically, you will think

we're all one big happy family. Optically, in your relationship, you don't want to fight in front

of your kids or your friends. You want everyone to think that your relationship's good and perfect

optics. You are trying to manipulate what people think about you even though you know that not the case.

In baseball, optics are when you are trying not to let your opponent know your weakness.

You are trying to manipulate your opponent into being intimidated by your perceived strengths.

When, in fact, they may not be strengths at all. When you are the commissioner of baseball,

you live with optics. You die with optics. Everything that you do every day is optics.

Who's hand do you shake when you get to a ballpark? Who do you sit with in your suite when you go

to jewel events? Who are you next to when the camera is on you and you are told by the network when

the camera will be on you? Who do you sit with when you go to a dinner or a charity event?

In what order do you thank people when you give a speech when you've been inducted into a club?

It's optics. The commissioner was asked to describe how things are going with sticky substances.
