Summary

13 year old Cristina Pangalagan was left in a hot car in August in Colleton South Carolina for more than five hours, resulting in her death. Her mom, Rita, had been named 2014 Teacher of the Year in Walterboro’s Black Street Early Education Center. Rita said she went to her boyfriend Larry’s house and accidentally left Cristina in the car. Video obtained from Larry’s house, however, showed that they had taken Cristina in the house with them, then took her back out to the car and left her there for hours, even leaving the house in another car and returning home later. Cristina was born with severe intellectual and physical disabilities that left her unable to verbally communicate, and she was confined to a wheelchair, leaving her unable to remove herself from the hot car. 1:48.3	Brandy Churchwell here, and I have the latest in your trial update for South Carolina
1:53.0	versus Rita Pangalangan and Larry King.
1:56.5	This is Christina's story.
1:59.0	We left off on the last episode with the state resting their case.
2:03.2	So now it's the defense.
2:04.9	Now, this works a little bit different because there are two defendants with two separate attorneys.
2:09.4	So the way that they did it on this one is that Larry King goes first.
2:15.1	Now, as a shock to everybody, Larry King has decided to testify on his own behalf.
2:21.9	He takes a stand, and the first thing that he does is speak to the jury and say, how y'all doing?
2:27.2	His attorney immediately stops him, because obviously that's not allowed, and has to remind him,
2:31.9	no, sir, you don't get to talk, you just answer questions.
2:35.7	So he says his name, he talks a little bit about his family.
2:38.6	He said he's originally from Walterboro, and he said that he's 46 years old.
2:43.3	He has a couple of kids in their 20s, and he has a four-year-old grandson.
2:48.0	Talks a little bit about where he's working and says that he's only had
2:52.3	five jobs in his whole life, that he's always worked and he's worked long-term jobs. Now, one of the
2:58.4	main things that keeps coming up in this trial is that methamphetamine was in the system of not only
3:03.7	Larry, but also Rita. So his attorney asks him about this.
