Summary

The number of young people not in education, employment or training - known as NEETs - is set to rise to 1.25 million unless urgent action is taken.

An independent review has been carried out by former Labour health secretary Alan Milburn, who will present his findings today.

He is set to warn that six in 10 NEETs between 16 and 24 have never had a job - this figure was four in 10 just 20 years ago.

The US and Iran have exchanged fire as hopes for a ceasefire took a hit overnight.

Iran's armed forces said an American airbase was targeted, adding: "The enemy knows that aggression will not go unanswered."

This followed US strikes against Iran - as US President Donald Trump said he was "not satisfied" with Iranian proposals for a ceasefire and that should both sides not reach an agreement, he would "finish them off".

Resident doctors will strike for four days in June in England, the British Medical Association has announced.

Birmingham City Council has paid more than £470,000 to itself for breaking the rules of its Clean Air Zone (CAZ) policy - most of the fines came from vehicles in its waste department - even though there has been a year-long bin strike.

FIFA is facing an investigation by the states of New York and New Jersey over World Cup 2026 ticket prices and the accuracy of seat locations.

Sophy and Wilf have the day's news in just 10 minutes.
