Ian, great to see, great to see. I don't know if I've given you a big enough intro there, Ian Probert, the writer of

Dangerous and Intimate Journey into the Heart of Boxing. Great to have you here on Toe Toe. Very nice to be here. Can you tell us a little bit about the book first to start? Yeah, tell us a little bit about the book. Okay, well I'll try and keep this as brief as I possibly can because I do tend to ramble.

You're in good company.

I mean I've got to start by saying that from the beginning I have a problem with

boxing in that...

We'll do it in.

Yeah, well, we'll discover in that and that back in the late 80s, early 90s,

I found myself working in boxing as we all have done and do.

I was the editor of Boxing Monthly, I was the editor of Boxing Weekly, which was the sister paper of Boxing Monthly. I wrote for a lot of newspapers

magazines and I kind of wondered what I was doing that for because boxing troubles me in the on the one hand it

goes it's indisputable that boxing is is one of the most exciting breathlessly exciting things that you can ever watch.

I mean, I've got more thrills from watching boxing than I think in anything, really.

On the other hand, what troubled me was the fact that you have two people hitting each other potentially causing real damage for my benefit, for my pleasure.

That was the problem. So this was further amplified when a couple of friends of mine got injured in boxing. One of them was Rod Douglas. Do you remember Rod Douglas? Yes I do.
