1:10.4 | And it is technically classified as a rithamysin antibiotic. |
1:17.4 | So if you remember from a previous podcast, I believe I've covered refampin in the past, |
1:23.9 | one of those drugs that's definitely very notorious for drug interactions. |
1:28.3 | I'll talk about that further in a little bit with refaxamine. |
1:33.2 | But refaxamine specifically is limited to the use basically of gut problems and gut infections. |
1:51.4 | So C. diff is a common infection that we use oral vancomycin, |
2:00.8 | oftentimes, but refaxamine is a potential alternative in the management of C. diff. |
2:06.3 | So again, probably not a first-line medication for C-DIF, |
2:12.5 | but certainly a viable option that can help manage that type of infection. |
2:20.0 | Probably the second most common situation I've seen this medication used is hepatic encephalopathy. |
