If you drive a vehicle, you've probably felt the squeeze at the gas pump lately. Limited supply,

geopolitical forces, and an effort by U.S. oil firms to resist overproducing are all at play here

as prices per gallon creep well over $4 nationally. That's putting a particular strain on ride-shared

drivers. Drivers for Uber and Lyft are technically independent contractors,

which means they're on the hook for gas and other vehicle-related expenses.

But as these prices increase, the fares drivers make have stayed pretty much the same,

and that's caused some drivers to reach their breaking points.

An Uber driver in New York City told
