Summary

There’s beauty in letting go and not having your life mapped out for you. That’s something musician Rick Astley has learnt in the years after calling it quits on his successful music career when he was just 27.

In this chat with Fearne, Rick gives some brilliant insights into what the music industry was like thirty years ago, how it’s changed, and how it hasn’t. Plus, he reflects on who his parents were and how, despite a difficult childhood, he’s able to see them as multifaceted humans rather than just parents.

0:14.0	My dream became my life as it were, and it wasn't the dream I thought it was.
0:19.0	It was just kind of like, what the hell is this, you know.
0:21.0	I was kind of almost chasing my tail all the time, like trying to find out,
0:25.0	how do I fit into it?
0:26.0	And yet, everyone thought I was the person at the front of it.
0:29.0	And I was, I even think it's not a very kind word to say control,
0:33.0	because it feels like people were controlling me.
0:35.0	They weren't. They were just laying down the path for me.
0:38.0	You know what I mean? I just walked down it, and I think I don't really do that anymore.
0:42.0	I'm sort of putting the bricks in the road for myself to walk down, which I really love.
0:46.0	It's been 36 years since Rick first shot to fame, and now he's back making music.
0:52.0	And if you saw his Glaston Reset earlier this year, you could happily say he's back
0:57.0	with more energy than ever, and even better suits.
1:01.0	That Glaston Reset was absolute pure joy.
1:06.0	He performed all the classics, of course.
1:08.0	And it was really interesting to hear in this chat how he feels about those songs
1:12.0	never going to give you up together forever now.
