Richard Freeman was the person J most wanted to speak with when starting the podcast and his dream is finally realized in this conversation celebrating the 100th episode. They discuss what yoga was like in the late 60’s, how Richard came to study with BKS Iyengar and Pattabhi Jois, universal threads that run through the many different contemplative traditions he has inquired into, trends that have emerged with the progression of yoga into the mainstream, and the importance of remaining curious about the nature of reality.

Okay, what's up, people of the universe? This is Jay Brown Yoga Talks podcast. My name is Jay Brown,

0:19.6

and I am very happy to be with you to celebrate this momentous

0:25.0

episode, the 100th episode of Jay Brown Yoga Talks podcast. And it's funny, you know, two and a half

0:34.5

years ago when we started this podcast, my producer and I, we had a little bit of an argument, not really, but a disagreement about episode numbers.

0:46.8

I maintained that all the podcasts list the episode numbers in the title, and we should do the same.

0:55.1

And he felt like they weren't necessary that it's an asynchronous universe,

I didn't care that much.

1:09.0

And as the years have gone on, I kind of like that the episode

1:13.1

numbers aren't there. Because I don't really want to feel like I'm keeping score. You know,

1:19.8

if I wanted to, I could have taken the advice of a number of people who told me that the

1:25.2

episodes were too long. I could have cut them in half

1:27.5

and had part ones and part twos and I'd be on my 200th episode now, you know? So it's never been

1:34.7

about how many episodes I have. But I have to admit, having reached the 100 episode mark, it feels like a milestone.

1:48.1

It feels like I've been working hard for a while to crank these out every week, you know.

1:55.6

And we've hit the three-digit mark.

1:58.8

So that feels good. I want to own that.

2:01.8

I really do enjoy making these podcasts and sharing them.

2:07.4

I've been profoundly grateful to those of you who've been listening, especially those

2:13.4

of you who've been with me since the beginning.

2:16.1

Because, you know, it was a little rocky there at the start.
