Hello and welcome to episode 17 of Cult Leader. I'm your Cult Leader, Spencer Henry and, um, man, you guys are in for a good one today, but also a gory one.

So if you're new, prepare to hear something so awful, you'll need to watch at least two episodes of the office afterwards to recalibrate.

That's what I do. Anytime I watch something like scary or creepy or read something awful, I always like have to watch something happy afterwards otherwise I just like, I don't know.

Figgle pussy. So first off, I wanted to talk to you guys today about my merch line, which launched on the 31st. I am so excited. Thank you guys so much for ordering. Like I'm so stoked to just like know that there are cult members out there, wrapping the cult so hard.

So it launched on the 31st and the pre-orders are still happening until January 8th at midnight. I believe that is a this Wednesday. And so everything that's been placed between the 31st and the 8th will be shipped out a day or two after that.

So they just kind of got to like, I don't know how they do it. Honestly, I'm not doing it myself. I had a little team helping me because otherwise it just like would never have happened.

Uh, let's get into today's story. So Richard Chase, total gross. So like what he did with his victimous bodies was not just like this little a Dracula stuff that his nickname, the vampire of Sacramento would lead you to believe.

It gets just gross. He is disgusting. So here's your graphic warning. There's a lot of bad stuff in this episode from December of 1977 until January of 1978, Sacramento saw six brutal murders carried out by Richard. And you guys know sometimes like all fast forward a little bit through somebody's childhood.

If there's like a lot of details pertaining to what they did as an adult or nothing really super significant happened to them, which is rare as a child that leads me to believe that it took plates some sort of role in their career as a killer.

Then I'll typically just like fast forward through it or leave things out, but his childhood, although it's not to blame for what he did later on, but I feel like he definitely was just not set up for a normal life.

He was born on May 23rd, 1950 in Santa Clara. His parents fucking soft, he grew up primarily with his abusive mom. And from an excerpt that I read in this like serial killer fact book by Jack Rosewood.

And the time he was 10 years old, Richard was already displaying traits of the Mac Donald triad, which is arson bed wedding and animal cruelty.

I have to say like Mac Donald like that because I kept saying Mac Donald the first time that I tried recording this. And all I can think of is like friend tries Mac Donald's I don't know.

I've heard about these different proponents before that have been shared characteristics between many killers and serial killers, but I never heard of it called the Mac Donald triad.

So I looked it up and basically it's derived from a psychiatrist J.M. Mac Donald who first wrote about it in the 60s in a paper called the American Journal of Psychiatry.

For the information that I gathered, basically it's the whole idea that like there are shared commonalities between serial killers as far as like these three things which are like showing signs of arson bed wedding animal cruelty.

Bed wedding I've always known to be a sign of abuse I believe I've heard the same thing about arson animal cruelty.

I feel like I've heard forever that that is symbolism that they could turn into you know a killer or they always say like somebody who hurts small animals they're going to be a serial killer.

So it's basically that whole idea it's taking those three things and putting them together and from from what I've read looking into it.

I think the three characteristics can definitely you know be related and show signs but I don't necessarily think that it's true and a lot of people have kind of like debunked his triad that he adds.
