In this series of podcasts I have been reviewing, my career as an amateur magician and looking

at certain principles of stage magic and close-up magic.

And how some of those principles can illuminate events in early church history.

In the last episode I talked about an individual named Lynn Bryson who came to our stake in

Austin, Texas back in the early 1980s and as part of his presentation about the evils

of rock and roll.

Introduce the audience to the concept of back masking, the idea that if you take certain

rock and roll songs and play them backwards.

There is a hidden message.

In another part of that podcast I also talked about the idea that seeing is believing and

I use the illustration of the arm guillotine trick that I performed for a New Year's

Eve dance at the same stake center in Austin, Texas in the latter part of the 1980s.

There I talked about how if you prime the audience to see something, then it is much

more likely that they will see what it is you tell them they're going to see, then

what they would see if they just watch the trick without any help from you.

And I've got to say upon reflection that I think with Lynn Bryson's back masking not

only is seeing believing, but hearing is also believing.

Because I honestly think that for me at least sitting in the audience, if Lynn Bryson had
