Summary

Savage discusses the upcoming changes to the US dietary guidelines as proposed by RFK Jr. The new guidelines call for increased consumption of saturated fats, diverging from established recommendations based on scientific studies. The new guidelines are based on research by Dr. Ronald Krauss, who found that saturated fats may be less harmful than previously thought. However, Dr. Krauss himself does not recommend increasing saturated fat intake. The host critiques RFK Jr.'s lack of scientific and medical background and warns against adopting the carnivore diet, which eliminates all plant-based foods. The discussion covers the history of the diet-heart hypothesis, the French paradox, and conflicts of interest in past dietary guidelines.

Here he is, Michael Savage.

Welcome to the Savage Nation. Today I want to talk about the intersection between food

and health and political agendas. I've been reading a lot this week about RFK Jr. and Trump's

0:31.3

controversial plan to issue new dietary guidelines that urge people to eat more saturated fat in their diet.

0:40.4

Now, this guidance is alarming to some experts because it contradicts what established scientists

0:46.2

and nutritionists have been saying for decades. According to various articles, I have one from

0:52.8

The Guardian, one from the New York Post, they're very good articles, they're well written.

RFK Jr. is basing this new guideline on the research done by Ronald Krause, a professor of pediatrics and medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, who has researched saturated fats extensively

and found that saturated fats may be less harmful than previously thought.

1:18.5

That's interesting.

1:20.3

More importantly, Krause's research also found that people tend to replace the fat

1:26.4

with all that processed garbage and end up eating

1:29.9

loads of sugar, which actually increases their risk for heart disease.

1:34.8

But this is where it gets complicated.

1:37.2

Like most experts in his field, Dr. Krause does not think RFK Jr. or anyone should be recommending people eat more saturated fat.

1:49.7

That's the main point.

1:51.4

The fact is there are mountains of evidence that meat, especially processed red meat, is associated with a higher risk for heart disease. So whether or not eating too much red meat is associated with a higher risk for heart disease.

2:01.6

So whether or not eating too much red meat is bad because it contains saturated fat or not is kind of missing the point.

2:08.6

So if all of these scientists, experts in their field agree that recommending people eat more saturated fat is a bad idea,

2:16.6

then why is RFK Jr., someone with no

2:19.4

medical experience or scientific experience or scientific experience?
