And despite his long and documented history of vaccine skepticism, he made it through

his selection hearings to take up the post of Secretary of State for Health and Human Services in February.

Vaccines play a critical role in healthcare. All of my kids are vaccinated. I've written many books on vaccines. My first book

in 2014, the first line of it is I am not any vaccine. And the last line is I am not any vaccine.

The assurances he made during his hearings have almost immediately been put to the test by a growing measles outbreak in

Texas, where two unvaccinated children have died. And while he has now said correctly that

vaccines are the most effective way to prevent measles, his other statements have muddied the waters.

We need to do better of treating kids who have this disease

and not just saying the only answer is vaccination.
