ADVERTS DISCLAIMER:

This podcast has ads at the start of every episode. However never in the middle of a story or at the end.

Please be assured all ad blocks have been applied to ensure no over 18 or inappropriate ads are played.

However, there may be the odd occasion where an advert slips through the net because the company submitting them submits them under a category that is not correct. This happens very rarely and I do my upmost to stop this happening.

If this happens, please email me at shortstoriesforkids@gmail.com and let me know the following information: What the ad was for? What state you live in? And what episode you heard it on and I will immediately contact Spreaker to block the ad.

I take this very seriously and I really appreciate your support and co-operation.

As creators, we want your child’s experience to be a pleasurable one. Running adverts is necessary to allow us to operate, but please do consider the premium subscription service as an alternative – it’s ad free.

Welcome back, friends, to short stories for kids.

And now it's time for today's story request.

0:15.1

Hi, Lucy. I'm eight years old, and I'm looking for a story about a little girl who adores her new puppy, but they got

0:22.1

separated from their housekeeper.

0:35.6

Margo lived in a very big house. Margo lived in a very big house. It was a much bigger house than those around it, which for some

0:42.0

people would make it an enviable place to live. But for Margo, it wasn't so great. Both her parents

0:49.0

worked long hours, either away from home or locked up in their individual rooms behind laptops and telephones.

0:56.8

Margot was allowed to go in and talk to them if she needed to as long as the doors weren't closed.

1:02.6

But as Margo had long ago learned, the doors were almost always shut.

1:08.3

So Margo was separated from her family in a very big house, which didn't make

1:13.7

living there all that special at all. Fortunately, it didn't mean that Margo was alone. Annie lived there

1:20.5

too. She was the housekeeper responsible for keeping the house running smoothly while Margot's parents

1:27.0

were busy.

1:28.2

Annie kept on top of the cleaning, ordered the groceries, supervised the gardener when he visited,

1:33.8

and more often than not, did the cooking too.

1:36.4

And the best thing about Annie was that she always had time for Margo, regardless of how busy she was.

1:43.6

Annie didn't have a door to close to tell Margo not to

1:47.1

disturb her, but even if she had, the door would most certainly remain open wide. Margo

1:54.0

learned all about how to run a big house from Annie, not to mention how to make pastry,

1:59.6

bake cookies, and whip up a surprisingly good

2:02.7

chocolate fudge cake. What's more, Annie never complained that Margot was under her feet,

2:08.9

in her way, or stopping her from working. The older woman was always patient, thoughtful, and kind.
