Christopher Duane Peterson's early life, but his father was a career army soldier, and

Christopher moved with his family from post to post living in Cleveland, Ohio, Fort Riley, Kansas, and El Paso, Texas.

Some of the mitigating factors that were later brought up in court were that he was

neglected in childhood by his father and he had an extreme emotional disturbance.

Christopher attended high school in Gary and after graduation he went to

Atlanta to live with an uncle while working in

security at the airport parking lot. In May of 1988 he went into the

Marine Corps. He spent two years in the Marines and became a corporal stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
