Between December 1965 and December 9, 1966, fear gripped Cincinnati as a killer stalked the city’s streets, leaving seven women dead. As panic spread and pressure mounted, investigators focused on local resident Posteal Laskey Jr., who was arrested on December 9, 1966, for one of the murders and later convicted. Though never charged in the other six deaths, police and the media quickly linked them all to him. This episode was researched & scripted by Wendy & Beth Williams and edited by Minnie Williams. Back in February 2025, Fruitloops Video Club watched and discussed the powerful documentary 4 Little Girls by Spike Lee. The film examines the horrific 1963 bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, where four young Black girls, Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson, and Cynthia Wesley, were murdered in an act of racist terrorism carried out by members of a Ku Klux Klan-affiliated group. Through archival footage and emotional interviews, the documentary explores not only the tragedy itself, but the broader fight for Civil Rights in America. It’s a heartbreaking, important, and deeply impactful documentary that stays with you long after it ends. Music “Blue Light Special” & “Perfect Servings” by Marlene Miller. Used with permission. In 1992, 18-year-old Katie Rackliff was murdered in Surrey, England, in a random, brutal attack. For years, police believed the killer was an adult man. The truth was shocking: the killer was a 12-year-old named Sharon Carr. She was later convicted, becoming one of the youngest female murderers in UK history. This week, Wendy, Beth & Minnie are getting real about everything - from the chaos of current events to personal updates. The plan was to review the powerful documentary MLK/FBI, but thanks to some technical hiccups, it turned into a classic LYB episode. They unpack political unrest, reflect on history, and share how they’re coping (and surviving) through turbulent times. Love you, bye! Back in November 2024 for Video Club, Wendy, Beth & Minnie reviewed the documentary Demon House - because Sef really, really wanted us to… and we love Sef, so of course we did! The documentary follows paranormal investigator Zak Bagans after he buys a supposedly haunted Indiana home sight unseen, dubbed a “Portal to Hell.” The trio digs into the Ammons family’s story, the film’s presentation, Bagans’ narration, and the bigger cultural implications. They talk trauma, the role of authorities, the lack of solid scientific evidence, and whether the documentary handled such serious themes responsibly. Let’s just say… they had thoughts. 👀 Music “Crystalline” by Yung Kartz https://freemusicarchive.org/music/Yung_Kartz Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License “Baba Yaga” by Kevin MacLeod https://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/full_list.php Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License “Freedom” by Caslo https://freemusicarchive.org/music/caslo/ Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License “Gotta Get it” & “Torey” by Arulo Mixkit Stock Music Free License https://mixkit.co/free-stock-music/trap/ Connect with us on: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@fruitloopspod BlueSky: https://bsky.app/profile/fruitloopspod.bsky.social Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fruitloopspod Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Fruitloopspod and https://www.facebook.com/groups/fruitloopspod Learn more about your ad choices. Beth & Wendy are back together after a little break, and it’s one of those cozy, thoughtful catch-ups you didn’t know you needed! They talk real-life stuff (new-year burnout, work-life balance), lean into what brings them joy, dip into pop culture, react to current events, and read listener letters that remind us why community matters so much. Add in some laughs, light news, and personal stories, and you’ve got a warm, reflective episode that still knows how to have fun. Come for the cultural commentary, stay for the joy! Back in April, Fruitloops Video Club reviewed the movie Sing Sing, a powerful prison drama that explores healing, hope, and transformation through the arts. Synopsis: A man is imprisoned at Sing Sing for a crime he didn't commit. When joined by a wary outsider, he finds purpose in staging an original comedy with a theater group of other incarcerated men. Wendy & Beth share their emotional reactions to the film, unpacking how storytelling becomes a lifeline for incarcerated people, offering escape, connection, and a way to process trauma. The convo touches on wrongful convictions, friendship, the struggle to reenter society, and the incredible impact creative expression can have on personal growth. It’s a rich discussion about art, community, and the urgent need for systemic change. Don’t miss this one - and definitely add Sing Sing to your watchlist! This week, Beth & Wendy dive into the disturbing case of José Luis Calva Zepeda — The Cannibal of Guerrero, aka The Cannibal Poet. A struggling Mexican writer with big dreams and darker secrets, Calva Zepeda’s world unraveled in 2007 when police entered his apartment and made a horrific discovery: the dismembered remains of his girlfriend… and chilling signs that parts of her body may have been cooked. It’s a case tangled in trauma, obsession, and a façade of artistic ambition. This episode was researched & scripted by Wendy & Beth Williams and edited by Minnie Williams. Thanks for listening! From August 2005 to June 2006, Phoenix, Arizona was gripped with fear as the “Baseline Killer” stalked the city. Mark Goudeau, a married man with a hidden dark side, was eventually linked to nine murders, multiple sexual assaults, and armed robberies. Disguised and armed, he attacked seemingly at random, at night and in broad daylight, until DNA evidence led to his capture. In this rewind episode from 2020, Wendy & Beth revisit this chilling case. This week on Fruitloops: Serial Killers of Color, Wendy & Beth take a detour into horror with a review of Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street. Scream Queen! is a documentary about actor Mark Patton, the star of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2, and his experience as a closeted gay man in 1980s Hollywood. The film explores the homoerotic subtext of the horror sequel, the backlash Patton faced, and his journey to reclaim his story. It’s a personal and powerful look at the intersection of queer identity and pop culture. This episode was edited by Minnie Williams. Thanks for listening!
