Summary

On February 1st, 2001 WWF SmackDown! was taken to the XTREME! This is the one and only episode of SmackDown that they called Xtreme! Why was it called this? It’s not an ECW reunion show, as ECW was still in business. Every match isn’t a hardcore gimmick match. It has a lot to do with the TV show Friends & Survivor both airing at the same time. Also, the XFL is premiering this weekend and it was a good idea to promote it! The show opens with The Dudleys defending the Tag Team TItles against the Hardy Boyz in a tables match. It’s not the best tables match, but there are some crazy spots that have never been done before or since this match. Also, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H are not allowed to touch at all or severe consequences will be upon both of them.  Stone Cold takes over Triple H’s locker room and then takes a massive dump in the bathroom. At one point during the night Austin shakes up 2 beer cans and sprays them on Hunter. But remember, Triple H can’t touch The Rattlesnake. As Mr. McMahon is leaving for the night, Stephanie approaches him and asks that Triple H get added to the main event WWF title match, with Kurt Angle defending against The Rock. Mr. McMahon agrees and the match is set. In the main event, as the ref is knocked down, Kurt Angle pins Triple H. Stone Cold enters the ring and makes a  fast count with the ref's hand. Kurt Angle retains the title and Triple H is livid! Plus, Kane and The Undertaker battle Rikishi and Haku in a First Blood match!

The boys are back in town. Welcome to the Deadlot podcast episode number 284. We are back

0:10.1

once again taking it back to the lovely world of Thursday Night Smackdown from the year 2001.

0:16.4

Some would say the date was February 1st. Some would say that, James, but the most important part that has to be talked about here

0:23.3

is that this is the episode where Smackdown gets taken to the extreme.

0:29.8

Nothing to do with ECW.

0:31.2

X.

0:31.8

X. Yeah, well, X, yeah, that's how you differentiate it.

0:34.3

This is because, or this was their feud show with XPW instead because that was

0:38.7

an X, but this has nothing to do with ECW. ECW is still alive actually. ECW has not died yet

0:44.3

by the time of the show, but this is Smackdown Extreme, which I think plays more into the fact

0:49.7

that the XFL is debuting in like two days. So I think this is the extreme football league with an X.

0:56.0

Yeah, they were trying to make everything extreme to get you ready for the XFL and

1:00.6

extreme it was extreme in and in some many ways actually.

1:05.1

Before we get to that, of course we have the deadlock updates.

1:07.8

Watch this up on the Patreon.

1:10.6

Tommy Dreamer versus Brian Lee, ECW High Incident

1:14.3

Scaffled Match. I hadn't seen this in like a long time. So I think maybe the first

1:20.2

time I watched it, I just probably skipped right to the bump at the end. I'm sure. Yeah. Or I just

1:25.5

saw, you know, you just see the replay of the bump of the end.

1:28.0

But yeah, I mean, this match is scariest shit, man.

1:31.2

The sketchiest scaffold I've ever seen ever.

1:33.7

Just to know that the Sandman built his scaffold, that's just all you need to know going
