Okay, today Cody and I are back a week early to review the news and this is a conversation

filled with some incredible highs and some very tragic lows. We open by talking about responsibility in the backcountry

and discuss the outcome of a story we talked about in our December edition of reviewing the news.

That's episode number 391. It's about an Austrian man who was facing manslaughter charges for leaving his girlfriend on Austria's highest peak.

There has now been an outcome to that case, and we discuss it.

From there, we talk about the fact that this winter has seen a significant number of avalanche deaths in the Northern Hemisphere,

and this last round of snowstorms in many places have led to more deaths,

including the deadliest avalanche in California history.

How do we begin to process this?

And once again, how do we think about who is responsible?

Then we discuss the Olympics and let me go ahead and apologize to all of our Canadian friends

for some of the things that we have said in this conversation, also apologies to our dear snowboarding friends.
