0:00.0 | Hello and welcome back to SoTriology 101. |
0:10.7 | Today we're going to look at the book called Determined to Believe by Dr. John Lennox. |
0:17.5 | Now many of you may have heard that I already did a kind of a cursory review of the book |
0:24.4 | some time ago on a Google Hangout, but I haven't done anything here on the podcast in a more |
0:29.8 | formal manner. And instead of just going through the book and pretty much amending every page of it, |
0:35.1 | which I do, John Lennox and I are very much lockstep on our interpretation |
0:39.6 | of Romans 9 and many of the other arguments. He holds to the same views that I hold to that our |
0:46.6 | Armenian brothers might disagree with with regard to total inability. He does, he does not believe |
0:51.5 | that we lost the ability to respond to God because we're fallen. |
0:55.0 | There's no biblical evidence of that as far as either John Lennox or I can tell and others who believe the more traditional or provisionist view. |
1:03.0 | And so that's one of the reasons I love John Lennox is because he also maintains the view that we hold to as traditionalist with regard to eternal security. |
1:10.0 | He has a couple of chapters at the end of that book that defend that position from a biblical |
1:14.0 | perspective. And though I have a lot of friends who disagree with me on some of those issues with |
1:18.5 | regard to total inability and provenient grace and eternal security, who are even among the |
1:24.2 | non-Calvinistic camp, it just shows that there are disagreements on both |
1:30.1 | sides of these issues on other individual matters. But that again demonstrates the very point |
1:36.0 | that we're contending, that we have free will. The reason there are various views is not because |
1:42.2 | God has decreed for us to disagree with each other, |
1:45.0 | but because he's decreed for us to have the freedom of the will to make our own choices, |
1:48.8 | independently of his desire and will. Otherwise, you've got God ultimately decreying disagreements and |
1:54.1 | misunderstandings among Christians, which doesn't make a lot of rational sense to think that God |
1:59.5 | is determining for one of his children to believe X and another lot of rational sense to think that God is is determining for one |
