In May of 1775, all of North America was up in arms about the violence that are broken out in Massachusetts. Many royal governors and other colonial leaders were fleeing their seats of power

due to threats of violence against them. The Second Continental Congress was meeting in Philadelphia

to decide on a coordinated response to events, but the people were not waiting for these leaders to act.

On May 31st, 1775, the town of Mecklenburg, North Carolina, approved their own

response to these events. Their resolves effectively called for an end to British rule in the colony.

Among their resolves were the following, quote, that all commissioners, civil and military,
