Hey there, from CNN. I'm David Rind with the five things you need to know for Tuesday,

February 17th. Tributes have been pouring in all morning for Reverend Jesse Jackson. For decades,

the 84-year-old American civil rights leader who worked with Martin Luther King Jr. was a towering

figure in the fight for equality and justice in the country. CNN legal analyst Joey Jackson, no relation, says Jesse Jackson had an impact on millions,

himself included.

Talking about what he meant to me, everything, right?

The fact is, is that the path certainly was made a lot clearer because people like him,

someone, right, like me can actually enter into a room.

I could speak to people of worth and value.

I could become someone.

I am someone.

And so I think when you see that symbolism, when you see him in action, when you see his movements,

wow, it's just not lost on me, nor should it be lost on anyone who looks like me that a person like him just paved the way.

Now, Jackson lived a huge life. His impact goes far beyond civil rights.

He negotiated the release of American prisoners, including soldiers, held around the world,

and he was the first major black candidate for U.S. president in 1984 and 1988,

laying the groundwork for future candidates, including Barack Obama.
