This episode is going to be devoted to St. Augustine, and no wonder, because in the aftermath of the

election of Pope Leo the 16th, everybody is turning to Augustine. We're all Augustinians now,

but we have today as our special guest,

Dr. Shane Owens, who is really and truly an Augustine expert, an Augustian to the core,

channeling Augustine, I think, on all over your waking hours. Shane, it's wonderful to have you

finally as a guest. You've been here as a colleague of mine now for two years at the university

and also here at the St. Paul Center, priest conferences and all kinds of things.

You've got your master's degree from Franciscan.

I think, if memory serves, you were the first to actually write a thesis and defend it.

That's right.

On St. Augustine.

And what was the topic of focus?

I was working on his Christology as he develops it in De Trinitatte, his masterwork in the Trinity,

so I was trying to look at the Christology dimensions and that with an ecumenical interest.

Yeah.

And then you went on to get your Ph.D. at Catholic University on...

Augustine's Theology of the Office of Bishop.

Yeah.

I don't know anybody less than 70 who is so soaked in St. Augustine.
