I'm Bob Mackie and I'm Chris Kohler.

And we're gathered here together to talk about music, specifically the music of Nobu Uematsu and Yasunori Mitsuda.

Um, you may be wondering why those two musicians specifically, but I don't think you really have to think that hard about it.

I mean, the two aren't, you know, the same person, they don't make the same music,

but they are kind of closely connected through a number of various elements.

I mean, both of them are best known really for their work on classic 1632-bit Squaresoft RPGs.

Both of them have kind of a shared inspiration roots from things like jazz and classic rock and prog rock.

And both of them liked to dabble in Celtic music and Celtic themes.

Would you say that they would be like most famous for like overcoming limitations, like making the most of what they were using?

I feel like they were.

Sure.

Why not?

They just made really great music for Squares RPGs and, you know, they did collaborate occasionally.

And Mitsuda and Uematsu are two different people with two very different kind of catalogs behind them,

but I really feel like there is a strong connection there.

So we're going to talk about their music and there's going to be a lot of music spliced into this episode.
