director of Christ for Kentucky. This podcast is the public thought outlet for Christ for Kentucky.

And if you've been following along, I said that I was going to take a few weeks off to research

and prep for our next podcast series, and that is still a plan,

but I couldn't help jumping on recording a special podcast that I hope will bring a measure

of comfort to many who desperately need it. So Monday of this week, I'm recording this podcast on Thursday, not sure when it will come out, but Monday of this week, I'm recording this podcast on Thursday, not sure when it will come out.

But Monday of this week, I was meeting some folks for lunch in Louisville.

It was an important meeting, so I turned my phone off.

When I got out of lunch, I quickly realized something was wrong.

I had numerous missed calls from both my wife and my best friend in the world, the best

man in my wedding, Jay Hager. And also just a haunting, honestly, haunting text for him saying,

please answer, exclamation point, exclamation point. My heart dropped. I got sick to my stomach.

I called him. And through tears and

panic, he said what every parent fears to say, there is an active shooter in my kids' school.

I pull over. I start to weep and scream some of the most desperate prayers I've ever prayed.

And then the fullness of the nightmare hit me.

His kids are at Covenant in Nashville.

I have other friends who have kids at Covenant.

Covenant shares property with Covenant Presbyterian,

where two dear friends also in my wedding, ushers in my wedding, are pastors.

And not only are their kids at the school,
