In this conversation, Kiva and I discussed the implementation of restorative justice in the

UK, how it differs from the U.S., what she sees as the primary challenges, opportunities,

vision, and mission of restorative justice, and how we can raise awareness about the availability

of restorative justice resources.

Kiva is Communications and Campaigns Manager at YME, UK, a national charity that promotes restorative

justice for everyone affected by crime and conflict. And now my conversation about restorative

justice in the UK with Kiva Baxter.

That's a big flaw in the justice system is the fact that victims of crime are often sidelined and the perpetrators are not supported to make change. So it's just going to lead

to a cycle of more and more offending. At the moment, there's a prison crisis in the UK.

There simply are not enough prison places.

But it seems strange to me that the solution is often,

well, let's just build more prisons,

rather than trying to do anything about the reason people are in prisons in the first place.
