It looks like the game's over for Rishi Sunak.

He stunted up a press conference today to tell the world he's still on top of stopping the boats.

He claims he's reduced the number of boats coming by a third. He says he's changing all sorts of laws to make sure that illegal migrants and asylum seekers can absolutely definitely, and for sure, be sent to some country that very few people had even heard of until a couple of years ago.

Even as he was saying the words, I found myself wondering if he was just trying to take my mind

off Boris Johnson, who was appearing for the second day at the COVID inquiry and making

more waves for the current Prime Minister. Is Mishi Sunak actually serious? Does he think

we're all gullible fools? People he can promise things to, but never

deliver. People who believe that he shouldn't have been Prime Minister, but who now miraculously

have changed their minds. Most of Sunak's own party don't believe him. Many of them are

already plotting to remove him, and there's open warfare going on in the shires where no one in their

right mind believes that this government has a snowball's chance in hell

of actually winning the next election. So what do we do now? Answer's on a postcard, please,

because tonight we'll be asking you and a cast of brilliant guests why we seem to have a

ruling class that doesn't have a scooby-doo of where we are going and how to fix all of the problems.
