Summary

The internet went wild with hate recently on a post from the podcast where Darren and I told a story about the stepkids not being allowed to hang out in our bedroom. So today, I’m responding. I’ll read some of the comments I received from trolls, give my thoughts on the haters, and answer the question - is it okay to feel different about your stepkids and your biological kids?  This experience is going to change my content. I’m going to get more raw and real in this space. moms are encouraged to keep it real, there's a big double standard when it comes to stepmoms.

So, I decided to start the conversation myself. Thriving as a stepmom doesn't just come from

I'm doing something I haven't done before.

And I kind of went back and forth about whether or not I was even going to respond to this because, you know, you don't like to give the trolls attention. However, I thought that a debrief on a recent real, like a little

1:02.4

clip from the podcast that got so much hate was necessary, or it would just be like a good

1:08.2

conversation. So here's what happened. A couple weeks ago,

1:14.5

and I will link the podcast episode for you, I did an episode with my husband where people

1:21.2

submitted their questions and like asking if their boundaries were unreasonable. And we gave

1:26.5

our opinion. So one of the questions was,

1:29.2

hey, I don't want my stepkids in the bedroom. I really would love some privacy and a space

1:34.4

that I can go that's kid free. Is this unreasonable? And I was like, no, actually, I don't think

1:39.6

that's unreasonable at all. And I shared how this was something that came up for us when Darren and I first got

1:44.6

together. And I shared how there was like a situation. Well, sidebar. I didn't grow up going into

1:52.1

my parents' bedroom. Like my dad, everything, he like lock his bedroom. Like we were not to go into

1:56.9

their bedroom uninvited. It was just the rule and the boundary that we grew up with.

2:02.1

And so kids just hanging out in parents' bedrooms was just not something that was ever normal

2:07.2

for me. So there was that. And then, you know, I move in. I become a stepmom. I go from zero to three
