you listen to the news, you pay attention to the news like a good citizen. You get full of

The story of the day, the Respect for Marriage Act,

passed the Senate and just passed the House.

What is going on here?

There are three dates that we need to know.

First, 1996. That is when the U.S. Congress passed the Defense of Marriage Act.

So the Respect for Marriage Act just passed.

But in 96, we passed the defense of marriage.

It was signed by Bill Clinton, passed the Senate 85 to 14.

This bill, back in the bigoted era of 1996, defined marriage as something that can only be done

between a man and a woman, something that every human being has believed to be true

for all time everywhere.
